Understanding the Competency Matrix

Competency Matrix is a tool that shows what employees need to know, what they need to be able to do, and how they are expected to behave at each level within a Career Path.  
How to use the Competency Matrix:
1. Go to Grow → Career → Competency Matrix.
2. Select a Career Path that you previously created in the Paths section.

The system then displays key details about the selected path - such as the Job Family, Career Track, total number of Levels, and Linked Paths - summarized in easy-to-read information cards at the top of the page.

If no competencies are defined for this path, you will need to add them first. Click Add Competencies to create and assign the necessary skills, knowledge, and behaviors. See below for how to add competencies.

• Below the summary cards, the matrix shows all competency categories included in the selected Career Path.
• Each category button displays the number of competencies it contains. Clicking a category filters the matrix to display only those competencies.
• Each category’s competencies are displayed in a unique color, making it easy to distinguish between groups.

The matrix shows the required level for each competency, but to see your current level, check the Playbook. Comparing your current level with the required level helps identify development gaps to focus on.

To edit a requirement, hover over the corresponding level cell and click the edit icon ✎, then select the level to modify the proficiency. To delete a requirement, use the delete icon 🗑. 
To add a new proficiency requirement to a competency, hover over the desired level cell and click Add Requirement, then select the level and define the requirement.

Note: The available proficiency levels are defined in the Competency Library section.

You can also add competencies to categories directly from this page. Click Add Competency, select the required competencies for the appropriate categories, and click Save to apply your changes.

The Copy functionality allows you to duplicate an entire Competency Matrix - including categories, competencies, and their proficiency requirements - from one Career Path to another. To copy an existing Competency Matrix, click the Copy icon 📋 , select the target Career Path, and confirm the action.
