Linking Career Paths: Managing Career Progression

Linking Career Paths in Spark.work allows you to connect different career paths within your organization, creating a clear map of potential career progressions. This helps employees understand how they can move between roles and enables HR and administrators to manage career development more effectively. By linking paths, you ensure that transitions between positions are logical and structured, supporting both growth opportunities and organizational planning.

Linking a Career Path

To link a career path:

  1. Go to Grow → Career → Paths
  2. Choose the Career Path
  3. Click the Link Path button below the level you want to connect.
  4. When you click Link Path, a sidebar opens with the following fields:

    • Position – Select the position you want to use as the starting point for linking paths.
      • The system needs to know which position’s career progression you want to connect. However, the sidebar displays all available career paths even if no position is selected.
    • Career Track – Choose the career track type (e.g., IC Track, Managerial Track) associated with the selected position.
      • Linking only works within compatible career tracks. Selecting a track that doesn’t have matching paths will not display any linking options.
    • Available Paths – After selecting the position and track, the sidebar shows the corresponding career paths that can be linked.
      • This allows you to connect the selected position to other paths, defining possible transitions for employees and creating a comprehensive career roadmap.

  5. Once all fields are selected, click Link to connect the paths. The new link will appear in the Career Progression section, displayed below the selected position level, and can be unlinked at any time.
