The OKR Backlog: Drafting Future Goals

The Backlog is your staging area for all future objectives that are still in the drafting, discussion, or preparation phase. It’s where you capture new ideas, explore strategic goals, and refine them before assigning them to a specific OKR cycle.

The Backlog includes two tabs to support different stages of preparation:

  • All: Displays all kinds of objectives that have either been created directly in the Backlog or have been moved here from an active cycle.

  • Drafts: Specifically shows only the objectives that currently hold the Draft Status, indicating they are actively being prepared or reviewed and are not yet ready for a cycle.

Objectives are added to this section using the Add Objective button. Once an objective is created here, it exists as a "Draft" until it is formally assigned to a Cycle.

Even in the draft stage, the objective displays critical preliminary information such as:

  • Objective: The goal being tracked (e.g., Reduce turnover by 25% by the end of 2025).
    • Click the name to view its full overview.
  • Key Results: The measurable targets linked to the objective.
  • Created by: Shows the name and profile of the user who created this objective in the system.
  • Layer: Indicates the objective's level (Organizational, Department, Individual).
  • Type: Defines how the objective is treated (e.g., Committed).
  • Departments: The field shows which team or unit is responsible for completing the objective.

Note: Objectives in the Backlog are fully editable, allowing users to begin building the Key Results associated with the objective even while it is still in the draft stage.

You can filter objectives by type, contributors, layers, and other criteria to focus on what’s most relevant,
